What Is Planned Giving?
A planned gift is made during your lifetime or upon death to benefit the organization of your choice. Planned giving is different from cash gifts, as it often allows you to make a larger gift than from income alone.
You may arrange for the Columbia County Traveling Library to receive:
- A gift with a set dollar amount
- Life insurance, retirement plan, or stock payouts
- Certain assets, including real estate or tangible personal property
- All or a percentage of your estate after all other obligations are paid
Planned gifts shared with the Columbia County Traveling Library remain confidential unless the donor agrees to be acknowledged publicly.

Choose your impact
A future in motion. A future in reach.
Your planned gift may be directed to a purpose close to your heart or left unrestricted so the Columbia County Traveling Library can use it where it is needed most.
Bookmobile Legacy Fund
Help keep stories, technology, and library services traveling to rural communities. A gift to the Bookmobile Legacy Fund supports access for readers wherever they live.
General Endowment Fund
Create a dependable foundation for the future. Endowment gifts provide lasting support for the Columbia County Traveling Library’s evolving needs and enduring mission.
A gift shaped by you
How will the Library use my gift?
Planned giving donors may specify that their gift be used for a special project or purpose, or it may be unrestricted so the Columbia County Traveling Library can use it where it is most needed. If you are considering a gift for a special project, we welcome a conversation about your wishes.
A thoughtful next step
How to Make It Official
The most important thing you need to do if you choose to make a planned gift is to inform the Columbia County Traveling Library of your intention. We can then work with you and your attorney or advisor to help ensure your gift is used as you intend.
Every adult should have an estate plan to transfer assets in a thoughtful and conscious manner. An estate plan often includes a will or living trust, as well as beneficiary designation forms for certain assets, such as insurance policies and retirement plans. An attorney who specializes in this area can help ensure your wishes are fulfilled.

Voices for tomorrow
Why We Give
Donors choose to extend the Library’s reach so future generations can find learning, connection, and possibility close to home.
“My interest in planned giving is to honor the readers in my family. My parents, Rich and Debbie, fostered and encouraged my love of reading; my sister, Debbie Anne, shared my love of reading. I hope to keep their spirit alive through supporting future generations of readers.”

"Our family believes that the true measure of a legacy is not what we leave behind, but the difference we make in the lives of others. By establishing a foundation to support the Columbia County Traveling Library through our estate, we hope to help preserve a resource that brings knowledge, imagination, and opportunity to people throughout our community. We are proud to be part of ensuring that future generations will continue to experience the joy of reading and the lifelong gift of learning. We hope our example will inspire others to consider how they, too, can leave a lasting legacy by supporting the organizations that make our community a better place to live.”

“To me, the Columbia County Traveling Library is a vital link that brings our entire community together. Knowing that a bright bookmobile can roll up to rural roads, schools, and senior residences—ensuring that distance or circumstances never stand in the way of reading, discovery, and connection—is why supporting this mission is so important to me. I have personally used it for many years and have borrowed hundreds of books for my elderly mother to read. She loved reading, and the books helped her to pass many hours. In addition, I have borrowed many audio books which I enjoyed as I traveled. Now retired, I still borrow audio books through CCLT which I listen to on my Libby app on my phone. We support the library personally and through qualified charitable distributions. The CCTL impacts many lives through their books, programs and other resources.”
